US10K

Registration:

All riders must pre-register!  Packet and number pickup will be at the race hotel on Sunday, September 5,

NOTE: All non-pro teams or riders must email ashley@gobike1.com prior to registering. Any riders (Cat 1/2 riders and/or Non-Pro Teams) that do not receive approval prior to registering will not be allowed to start. No exceptions.

Host Hotel:

Parking and Shuttling:

All competitors will park at the Start line at Cumberland Mall on South Cobb Parkway (route 41) just south of I-75.  Since the Finish is six miles away at White Water, riders will have a choice of riding their bikes back to their car or getting a shuttle back to Cumberland Mall. We cannot fit bicycles on the shuttle so we suggest either riding back to the start or sending a teammate on the shuttle to pick up the car. There is very little parking at the Finish so we urge you to use the shuttle buses.

Numbers:

Use two hip numbers and a frame number.

You must use all numbers.

Race Start:

The Races start at 7:15AM (men) and 7:20AM (women) on Monday morning.

Caravan Staging:

Staging will begin at 6:30 AM and riders must be in the staging area by 7:00 in order to start. Staging is on the Galleria Parkway on the east side of the mall. The actual start is in front of the Cobb Galleria Center/Cumberland Mall. This is not the finish line! Neutral support will be provided by Reality Bikes.

***Team cars will follow the field to the feed zone in front of Southern Tech at the beginning of the race. This is the only chance to get to the feed zone! With one lap to go, team cars will fall back in line and will be policeescorted to the finishline. If you do not leave at this time, you will not be able to make it to the finishline due to the 10K running race that will still be finishing.***

Race Finish:

The Finish will be at White Water/American Adventures Theme Park. It is a very – very fast downhill finish and is on the left side of the road.

Course Description:

Men:

The 100k (62 mile) course begins at Cumberland Mall and heads out South Cobb Parkway. Men make a right turn (but this loops around and turns into a left) onto South Cobb Drive (280), a right on Fairground Street, a right on South Marietta Parkway (120), a right onto South Cobb Parkway, and a right back onto South Cobb Drive.

This five mile loop using South Cobb Parkway, South Cobb Drive, and South Marietta Parkway will be used 11 times. After the 11 loops, riders take a left off of South Marietta Parkway onto South Cobb Parkway and continue on to the finish at White Water. Be aware that this is the only left turn in the race and it is very sharp!

The course is rolling with a few good-sized hills, wide open, and fast. The finish is downhill and very fast. The centerline rule is in effect on South

Cobb Drive and anywhere else you see cones. Obey this rule especially on South Cobb Drive where the traffic cruises at 70mph +! Cyclists will have the entire road for the first few miles of the race before the right turn onto the South Cobb Drive ramp. Riders crossing the double yellow line will be disqualified (if not flattened by oncoming traffic).

PLEASE NOTE- Riders out of contention- passed by the broom wagon- are required to withdraw- this is a requirement of the local law enforcement.

Women:

The course is a straight shot from the Galleria to Whitewater. It is exactly 10K. It is hilly and a pre-ride is encouraged. The finish is the same as the men’s, a fast downhill. At approximately 5 miles you will switch from the right side of the road to the left. This will be well marked and at the top of the last climb.

Prize List:

Women’s payout is 15 deep at $1,000, and men’s payout is 35 deep at $10,000. A completed W-9 form will be required in order to receive prize money over $600. Prizes will be awarded at the finish line as soon as possible. All PRO team checks will be made out to the team (and its tax ID number). As an individual you will have to fill out a W-9 before receiving your prize money. If you are not on a PRO team and need the checks made out to a company come prepared to give us the tax ID number and notify us of this as soon as results are posted.

Primes:

Men: 3 place prime midway through the race with approximately 6 laps to go (at entrance to Southern Tech – $150, $125, $100). Listen for the bell and look for the sprint line just past the feedzone. The bell will also ring to signal one to go.

Women: There are two hilltop primes (1st prime, $125, at approximately 2 miles, 2nd prime, $125, between mile 4 and 5). The first is at Windy Hill Road and the second is at South Marietta Parkway. The actual line will be directly under the traffic lights at these locations. Watch for an official and an orange flag. There is also a most aggressive rider award given by the US10K staff ($125).

Feed Zone:

There will be a feed zone in front of Southern Tech on South Marietta Parkway. Team cars will make their way to the feed zone behind the field at the beginning of the race. If you do not have a team car, you must leave before the race starts due to road closures. Lap cards and the mid-race prime sprint line will also be near this area.

Results Posting:

Results will be posted adjacent to the volunteer check in tent in the Whitewater parking lot. Leave the race course immediately after finishing the race. No results will be reviewed at the finish line.

Wheel Support:

Wheel In-Wheel Out.

Podiums:

Top 3 Finishers in the men’s and women’s fields have a mandatory awards presentation: The women’s awards, at the earliest, are scheduled for 8:25AM. Men’s awards are as soon as possible after the race between 10AM and 10:30AM. Be prepared to wait, as the 10K staff will be conducting podiums as schedule permits. Top three must attend in order to receive prize money. Expect to have two sets of photos taken, one with the race hat, shirt, etc and one with your team clothing.

All racers get a t-shirt and hat with their bib number at the finish line.
